Janko’s Rise: Oakley Tennis Star Tipsarevic’s Meteoric Elevation to World No. 9 in 2011

The ATP Chennai Open in India is kicking into full gear this week. And Janko Tipsarevic is the top seed.

Hold that thought.

Oakley’s Serbian Tennis Star closed out 2011 in a spot he never would have dreamed he would have been at the beginning of last year: No. 9 in the World.

Since breaking the Top 10 for the first time – after claiming two titles – he’s now slowly getting accustomed to the limelight.

Let’s not forget his shocking victory over his good friend and World No. 1 bomber Novak Djokovic at the World Tour Finals in London.

“Even though I don’t like playing against close friends, it was a great way to finish the season,” Janko said, rocking his Prescription/Photochromic Oakley Fast Jacket eyewear – which he sports on the court at every match. “It was an intense match because we are both good friends and know each other’s games inside out. Regardless of that I played really well.”

And if his ranking didn’t turn the heads of the masses, his victory over Novak definitely did. After all, he was ranked up in the 40’s not long ago.

“I never thought I could reach this far so fast only in one season,” he continued. “My goal at the beginning of the year was to be top 20 and win my first ATP title. I never thought I could reach this far so fast, only in one season. My determination made the difference.”

Now charging into Chennai as the favorite – set to battle through a field that includes the likes of Stanislas Wawrinka, fellow Oakley Family Member Nicolas Almagro and Milos Raonic – Janko is hoping to fly out of the gates on fire in 2012 as top ATP pros worldwide prepare for the coming Australian Open.

A huge congratulations to Janko for ending the year at World No. 9! Here’s to another epic season…
