Excellent waves funneling off the Kowie river mouth greeted contestants today for the opening day of the Oakley Pro Junior, the World Pro Junior Grade 2 event, taking place at East Beach in Port Alfred, South Africa this weekend. The best junior surfers in the country paddled out into the perfect surf for their heats, determined to win and secure a share of the US$12,500 prize pool on offer.

ASP Grade 2 Oakley Pro Junior Brings Top Talent To Trestles
The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Grade 2 Oakley Pro Junior will bring the world’s top junior talent to Lower Trestles, Calif., May 4-8, 2010. Running in conjunction with the ASP 6-Star PRIME 6.0 Lowers Pro, the Oakley Pro Junior will see 32 men, 20 years and younger, battling for critical ASP regional ratings points to qualify for the World Junior Tour and a $10,000 prize purse in the first U.S. regional stop on the global Oakley Pro Junior series.

In freezing cold conditions Oakley’s South African Royden Bryson claimed victory at the O’Neill Cold Water Classic 6 star event, winning US$20,000 (R150,000) as well as 3000 WQS points.
