When his JP Auclair’s urban segment from Sherpas Cinemas’ 2011 film “All.I.Can” hit cyberspace, it garnered 124,000 views its first day live.
JP is a pioneer of freeskiing and a true hero of the sport. He was one of the first to popularize grabbing, he won the first US Open, and he helped create the Salomon Teneighty. Auclair founded Armada skis in 2002 and Alpine Initiatives in 2008.
“Our whole take at Alpine Initiatives is you can’t really have a healthy environment without having healthy commmunities, and vice versa. It’s about trying to make the snowsport community stronger, so we can reach out and embrace the global community and people who are wanting to uplift their own community, no matter where in the world they are.”
JP full of ideas and inspiration, he tells a good story, knows about good music, takes good photographs and has always done what he believed in.
JP spent a month in Chamonix last season, skiing and filming with Seth Morrison for Oakley’s The Ordinary Skier. His background of moguls, racing and park skiing didn’t prepare him for extreme skiing in the Alps, but JP always knew he’d gravitate to ski mountaineering. Auclair learned steep skiing and climbing techniques, but he says the most important learning was introspective.
“I think I’ve really found something that suits my approach and personality. The whole time you are fully there, focused and in the moment. It’s beautiful.”
