    Aspen had been abuzz all week with rumors that Heath Frisby was planning to launch a frontflip during the Snowmobile Best Trick contest, but when Justin Hoyer crashed on his first run during a double backflip attempt suffering injuries to his right arm and leg, spectators wondered if Heath would go through with his plans.

Oakley’s superstar Snowboarder Shaun White sent the Snowboard World into an absolute state of awe – throwing down one of the most epic runs in the sport’s storied history for a perfect 100.00 point score and his fifth-straight Superpipe Gold Medal, despite bowing out of the Slopestyle contest earlier in the week due to an injured ankle.

    Mark McMorris is officially on fire. Oakley’s team ripper, just a day after claiming the Gold in Snowboard Big Air, tantalized an already-pumped crowd with a masterful aerial display that would land him the Snowboard Slopestyle triumph with a monster 93.00 overall score. The two coveted gold medals were his first…ever.

    Dominique Maltais needs no motor (and no wheels for that matter) to dominate a track. Oakley’s Canadian Snowboard speed demon left the rest of the Snowboarder X field in her dust…errr, snow spray…all afternoon on Saturday to claim her first Winter X Games Gold Meal. She finished the race – holding a lead of more than 1.5 seconds.

    The future of global surfing is here. Meet Caio Ibelli, Oakley’s Brazilian Team ripper, and the newly crowned ASP World Junior Champion. The young gun claimed the illustrious title at the Billabong World Junior Championships in dramatic fashion, knocking off previous title front-runner Garret Parkes in a Surf-Off, after Parkes was taken out in the event’s Quarterfinals (resulting in an overall standings tie). As the Surf-Off commenced, it was Caio to begin racking up the points with a collection of minor scores. But he wouldn’t leave anything to chance.

    Torstein Horgmo’s first-ever Triple Cork made Winter X Games history last year. But as always, Oakley’s athletes weren’t done pushing the envelope. Coming from behind in the Big Air Finals on Friday, Oakley’s Young Canadian Star Mark McMorris threw down a massive Backside Triple Cork 1440 to claim glory in Aspen. Also stomping a clean Backside Triple Cork 1440 himself, Torstein’s overall score of 76 in the final jam session – and a perfect score of 50 – wasn’t quite enough to overtake Mark’s 80-point explosion.

    It wasn’t a usual walk in the park for Kaya Turski. But the defending Women’s Slopestyle Champion charged back from behind in the final round of the contest on Thursday – racking in a 95.00 to claim her third-consecutive Winter X Games Gold Medal in the event. She’s the first woman ever to have accomplished the feat. “I’ve never seen the level so high as I’ve seen it today,” Kaya said, rocking her Oakley eyewear and gear. “Everyone is taking training seriously, eating well, and working hard, it’s going to be a crazy couple of years.” But it wasn’t anywhere as easy as it had been in the past.

    The 12th annual Powder Awards and Reader Poll returned to the historic – and rumored to be haunted – Hotel Jerome in Aspen, Colorado last night. There was crazy energy in the hotel as everyone who’s anyone in the ski industry gathered for a night celebrating yet another amazing year of athletes crushing it, photographers freezing spectacular moments in time and video production teams putting it all on film for us to relive over and over again.

Exhibit O: The super private media event on Tuesday night, where Oakley Team Snowboard and Ski Stars took industry reporters on a horse-drawn sleigh ride to the ultra-remote Pine Creek Cookhouse. Literally in the middle of nowhere, Snowboard Team Rippers Eero Ettala, newly-signed Maddy Schaffrick, Gretchen Bleiler, Kohei Kudo and Matt Ladley – as well as Ski Star Simon Dumont – dined with and chatted with the media about the coming X Games contest this week and Oakley’s 2012 snow apparel/gear line. All following a chilly and undeniably memorable journey by slay in the dark of night in the outskirts of Aspen.

Oakley’s young snowboard ripper, who’s the first rider to ever have landed a complete backside triple cork 1440, is set to make his mark on the upcoming Winter X Games in Aspen after grabbing a Silver medal in Slopestyle last year. He’s making so much noise, in fact, that The Alli Show put out a killer feature on him…one that was later featured on an NBC Sports snowboarding broadcast.
