Hideki Matsuyama is a budding superstar in the world of golf. Coming out of Japan, the young 21-year old has already made major strides on the sport’s biggest stages. In 2010 Matsuyama won the Asian Amateur Championship. As the winner of this tournament, he was granted entry in the 2011 Masters Tournament where he took full advantage of the opportunity.
In Augusta, Matsuyama won a number of accolades: he was the first Japanese amateur to compete in the event, he was the only amateur to make the cut and he was the lowest scoring amateur, earning him the Silver cup.
After his notable performance in the United States, Matsuyama went home to turn professional in April 2013 where he continues to rack up wins on the Japan Golf Tour. So far the young gun has amassed four professional victories. In 2014, the Japanese superstar will compete on the PGA Tour by virtue of his non member earnings ranking. In just seven PGA Tour-sanctioned events, he has had six top-25 finishes, the best being a T-6 at the 2013 Open Championship.
